Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Community Consultation and Research
Lamajo Education and Training Consultants were commissioned to
undertake a major research project on behalf of the South Wales Magistrates
Courts Committee (SWMCC) to identify the various Black and Minority Ethnic
(BME) groups and organisations within South Wales, and in particular
within the 7 Unitary Authority areas of the SWMCC.
SWMCC recognised that minority ethnic individuals were under-represented within its SWMCC members, magistrates and workforce.
In order to explore ways of building positive links with BME groups in South Wales and to measure the effectiveness of SWMCC Race Equality Scheme in the area. A key element of the commission was, through consultation, to establish the preferred methods and approaches that SWMCC should adopt when communicating with BME groups or organisations.
The project was deemed a major success, and has now set SWMCC (now known
as Her Majesty’s Courts Service - HMCS), on route to becoming the
exemplary benchmark for fostering mutually rewarding and beneficial relations
with people from BME communities within South Wales
The following pages breifly describe two of our events for the Courts service.
